Pro-Worker AI: Designing AI That Works for Workers

Join Tahira Probst and David A. Dorr for an introduction to a framework for evaluating whether a given AI system is likely to support or undermine workers. Participants will leave with concrete questions and strategies they can use to assess AI systems in their own organizations and to advocate for worker-centered implementation.

TWH is a comprehensive, research-to-practice approach that is essential to protect workers from emerging, traditional safety and health hazards, and promote worker well-being. The course content will include an examination of the TWH five elements and concepts, an introduction to occupational health psychology, its relevance to safety, and discussion of resources and effective implementation strategies to help organizations integrate safety, health, and well-being policies, programs and practices. 


Join us in a combined learning environment that includes 6 weeks of self-paced learning and in-person interactive, virtual sessions on the practical application of the TWH approach.


A certificate of completion for Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) will be awarded following course completion. Additional professional development credit available upon request: Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Certified Public Health Professionals (CPH), Certified Safety Professionals (CSP).

Sleep extension or circadian-based interventions: Impacts on cardiometabolic health

OccHealthSci’s final science seminar of the academic year was on June 3 and featured Christopher Depner, Ph.D, Assistant Professor at the University of Utah in a discussion focused on free-living sleep extension and circadian-focused interventions. Watch the video.


Recipients of the 2025 W. Kent and Billie F. Anger Impact Awards for Research

OccHealthSci announced the names of the recipients of the 2025 W. Kent and Billie F. Anger Impact Awards for Research in June. Associate Professor Saurabh Thosar, Ph.D., received the Impact Award for Basic/Clinical Research. Professor and Associate Director for Applied Research Leslie Hammer, Ph.D., received the Impact Award for Applied Research. Learn more about Drs. Hammer’s and Thosar’s contributions to their fields here.


Drinking to unwind after work may make firefighters’ sleep worse—and vice versa

A new study of 120 firefighters conducted by researchers at the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences found that alcohol use and poor sleep create a reinforcing cycle—each making the other worse. Read more.
