The Total Worker Health® (TWH) approach brings together policies, programs and practices that are essential for advancing worker safety, health, and well-being. In this introductory course, participants will learn about:
The terms and concepts essential to the TWH approach;
The five defining TWH elements;
Effective organizational implementation strategies of a TWH approach; and
Ways to develop applicable next steps.
This virtual training is developed and offered by the Oregon Total Worker Health Alliance which includes Oregon OSHA, SAIF Corporation and the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences, OHSU. Continuing education credit through SHRM available upon completion of the training.

Total Worker Health®: Advancing Well-being in the Workplace
March 31 – May 5, 2025 Virtual course Learn more and enroll
This course is a part of the University of Washington Occupational Safety and Health Continuing Education Total Worker Health® Certificate program. Course content will include an examination of the Total Worker Health® (TWH) five elements and concepts, an introduction to occupational health psychology and its relevance to safety and TWH, and a discussion of resources and strategies for integrating safety and occupational health into organizations. Interactive activities include large and small breakout group discussion, problem solving based on attendees’ organizational experience, homework and recap on published articles.

Oregon Healthy Workforce Center
Leslie Hammer, Ph.D., director of the Oregon Healthy Workforce Center will deliver keynote addresses at the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health’s Utah NORA symposium and Canopy Wellbeing’s 50th anniversary Building Employee Wellbeing virtual conference on April 17 and 24, respectively.

Occupational Public Health & OR-FACE Programs
The Oregon Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation (OR-FACE) Program, in collaboration with Jeff Wimer (Logging Safety Consultant, OSU Retired), has developed a free, self-guided, online Oregon Yarding and Loading Safety Training. This training was adapted from the Oregon OSHA Yarding and Loading Handbook and is intended to supplement the essential training offered by employers. Designed for those working in the logging industry, this online training covers essential topics such as types of yarding systems, recommendations for rigging, procedures for rigging crews, and more! A Spanish version of the training is currently being developed and will be available soon for free.

Effectiveness and durability of a workplace sedentary behavior intervention based on the Total Worker Health® approach
Researchers at the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences used the Total Worker Health® approach to develop and test an intervention to address workplace sedentary behavior. The intervention was designed to reduce workplace sitting time and improve worker health, wellbeing, and safety. Watch the video:
